This was meant to be a blog about Fort Worth Real Estate, and I am well aware of the pitfalls of veering from that. But sometimes I just absolutely have to respond. And most recently I have to respond to West and Clear’s perception that Texas is not a competitive state

Most likely, I am about as Texas as it gets politically. I tend to be fairly moderate socially, but that is exactly what makes me Texan. You see, while the rest of the country (and apparently west and clear) has grown their own interpretation of Texas, they forget our History. Historically Texas is a moderate state. We may have acquired a different perception recently, but Texas was about 50/50 on seceding from the nation before the Civil War. We have been fairly moderate on everything historically.

It bothers me when sites like west and clear take a contemporary position of “Bush Hating Progressive Texans”. They really don’t know what they are talking about. Contemporary politics are more of a fad in state and national issues. Texas is a fairly well balanced state, and it just kills me to see local media that has essentially adopted martyrdom to appease a greater left wing agenda. I prefer moderation. I have been exceptionally pleased with Kevin’s politics (when it shows up).

I am really no fan of Chesapeake, but I can certainly understand why some may predict that Chesapeake is a prime buyout candidate. Their growth model has always been to outspend the competition and run prices up so high that hardly anyone can compete. The problem with this business model is that it tends to ramp up your debt load fairly heavily. Chesapeake has outrun their over leveraged position by riding the upward tide of commodities for the last decade or so. With weakening natural gas prices, they might be a little tight on some note payments (so say some in the Oil and Gas accounting world).

To predict that CHK would be bought entirely is a little much I think. I think their preference is to sell off assets in a bid to stay sovereign. There is just to much ego in the mix at CHK.

My prediction would be further sales of participating interests nationwide. This will leave them more liquid, and alleviate geographic risk. I would welcome the ousting of CHK propaganda from every corner of Fort Worth whole heartedly.

I happened across a great handyman, word of mouth, who has the most interesting story.

Lee Royal worked for the Fed’s carrying mail in the Overton Park area for years. Apparently some of the little old ladies around there would ask Mr. Royal to help them change lightbulbs and such when he came around. He said it cut into his workday, but he was willing to help out. When the USPS found out about this they chastised him saying that he couldn’t do such things within the scope of his employment. His response was that he could whatever liked on his lunch hour.

After facing opposition within his day job, he decided he might just become a full time handyman. He say’s he has been at it for sometime now, and makes a good living. It has provided for his home, a rental property, and all of his tools (which require a large trailer).

I needed some sprinkler work done, and he did it very quickly at a surprisingly low rate. I believe he specializes in Carpentry and Painting, but doesn’t seem to avoid many tasks at all. I would certainly call him again.

I would provided his contact information here, but feel a little awkward doing so without his express permission. I would be willing to provide on an individual level if anyone cares to contact me.

Fort Worthology mentioned a really cool company today, JPF Homes Inc. They highlighted JPF’s Fort Worth Bungalow site which displays some great restoration work they have done. No doubt that if I was in the market this would be a prime choice. JPF seems to tout their “front porch lifestyle” approach to buildouts, and I must say that they do a great job.
