W&C on SWD’s. It always happens. We should expect it. W&C says that the muni’s should have more controll over disposal wells. I suppose they believe that the Rail Road Commision is not competent to decide what respectable depths are for water tables.

You see this over and over. Local media complaining about the Barnett Shale. They simply loath it. They can’t stand it. They have to write about it and complain about it. I don’t even like the words Barnett Shale anymore because I hear about it so often. Local media can’t admit that it has been a boom for the local economy. Employing tens of thousands. Boosting revenues for countless organizations, individuals, and local government. I hate to sound like Chesapeake here, lord knows I do loath their advertising, but it really has been a good thing.

I just don’t understand all these outlets complaining about something so good for everyone. I have even seen bumper stickers that say “Thanks Barnett Shale For Destroying Our Community”. Destroying our community? If anything it has made us a stronger community. It has brought us together, built jobs, paid dividends. I just don’t understand the whining going on here.

Someone made a good point in saying that before the Barnett Shale the Fort Worth Weekly was just trash. And it’s true, they were. It was just a trashy publication that advertised strippers, escorts, and concerts. When the Barnett came along 80% of their covers were fixated with the geologic phenomena. It legitimized the publication as they sought to expose the gaseous evils.

I am just tired of the home grown activists. We absolutely should keep disposal wells out of the city limits however.
