Would you look at this. I have never seen these numbers before. It basically says that real estate agents a bunch of old white ladies that make about $37k a year.
In DFW the number of realtors (and I use that in the non-NAR sense) has declined about 6% since last year. Nationwide they are losing about 17% of their income this year. The average age is 54, and Eighty Eight percent are white. WOW.
These are startaling statistics. I think that the age of the agent is dying… Or maybe all of the agents are dying, I am not really sure. But in any case there is no doubt that real estate could use a giant overhaul.
Why do people even use real estate agents? Where is the value. Any halfway intelligent person can navigate a contract, closing, and chose a decent property. I would bet that my readers are smarter than the average real estate agent. No doubt in my mind. You are wiser, more intelligent, more contemporary, and tech-savvy than the average real estate agent. This goes for everyone, agents and non-agents.

I have to say that we bought this house without an agent and I have had regret about that. An agent could have researched the fair price for the house and we might have asked for a better deal; furthermore, the seller managed to cover up the fact that the floors were uneven until the house was in the inspection stage. On the other hand, we bought our first home with no agent and had no troubles. So I think it depends. But these days, I would get an agent.
