No surprises here, DFW is losing large amounts of retail tenants. Surprising then that we keep building retail space.

How about this, instead of the city spending insane amounts of money turning an old post office into City Hall we utilize existing structures. Shopping centers are losing some of their anchor tenants. This is leaving behind millions of square feet that needs to be utilized. Big Box locations leave open floor space which can be easily modified into perfectly usable space.

Take for example the Overton Ridge area between Hulen and Bryant Irvin. There is plenty of commercial space available. Perfectly good, perfectly well located, and easily manipulated. Now I am not suggesting that we move City Hall to an old Comp USA location, but we could certainly utilize such facilities for municipal annexes. Furthermore, we could do so without spending insane amounts of capital on feasibility studies, overhaul, and buildout.

These are doable things, and I expect the open commercial space to become quite a problem before long.
