I went to Reata downtown recently, and of course it was as exceptional as always. I really like that restaurant. A lot. But I noticed something new this visit. When I got my car out of valet there was a card that had been left behind. Among other things the cards said that they hoped my visit was wonderful, and if I had any questions, comments, or thoughts, I could contact them. The note was completed with Mike Micallef’s (the part owner) email and phone number.

I am not going to call Mike, or email him. It certainly is a nice gesture though, and a great business tool on their part. I would think that it would be highly advisable for more restaurants to take on this sort of personal touch.

Another great thing about Reata is that they stick to what they do well. So many restaurants, from Fort Worth and elsewhere, try so hard to expand their empire. Not Reata. Fort Worth and Alpine are their only two locations. As far as I know they don’t have any other restaurants of any kind. When a Chef and/or owner begin to expand to far they become spread thin and it shows up in the quality of their food.

Reata also has a heck of a story. I suggest looking into it.

curlys-custard-fort-worthIt is unbelievably hot outside, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any cooler. And while the New Berri Blu is a neat spot to hit, you just can’t forget about Curly’s Frozen Custard on Camp Bowie. As an added bonus they have misters installed just for days like today.

I didn’t know they catered, until today.

There’s a great new yogurt place on the western end of Camp Bowie, Berri Blue. Situated in an old TCBY location, the shop has a modern feel and some atypical toppings. I have to say that it is very good and probably the most healthy yogurt I have ever seen. I don’t think this contemporary health minded yogurt shop is a new concept to other area’s like Dallas, but it’s new here, and I have a feeling that it will go over very well.

Surprisingly, the owner tells me they have done zero marketing thus far, and yet business seems strong. They don’t even have a site up yet.

I would certainly check it out. Here’s a review.
